Meet TEDxManitoba Speakers Leslee Silverman & Columpa Bobb

TEDxMB speakers Leslee Silverman and Columpa BobbIn a recent email to the TEDxManitoba organizers, Leslee and Columpa explained a bit about the talk they will give on February 15th:

The Moving Gallery @ the Edge of the Screen

Manitoba Theatre for Young People is our home where 125,000 young people come to escape the data sphere and play with big ideas such as: What makes a moment meaningful?

In the studios here, young people explore, investigate and discover their authentic voice. Through the art of storytelling they direct change, thus bridging the gap between the actual and the virtual realities they face today.

In our rehearsal hall today, the actors are rehearsing a play about cyber-bullying. Why is this important? Because the emergence of ‘an empathetic civilization’ is imperative. Live art that is made by and for children declares that we care more for Truth, Beauty and One Another than we do about Wall Street or smart phones.

In June of last year, the Truth and Reconcilliation Commission held its first National Event here. But reconcilliation cannot be legislated into being. It comes from the heart, mind, body and spirit. Here at MTYP, young people have the opportunity to participate in true reconcilliation between human beings.

Join us on February 15th for this and a whole lot more.

I would LOVE to hear this talk! As a teacher, I have dealt with this issue first-hand. I have been thinking, and saying, the same thing about implementing “Restitution” for years now; mostly to deaf ears. Restitution is a great idea; but, without a conscience, without empathy, restitution will not work. It seems impossible…but I worked at MTYP for a year: Leslee
and the people at MTYP make the impossible possible all the time.
